Dear Readers,
I hope I didn’t catch you all by surprise, but this is the final page of Tangled River. I started the story over 6 years ago by writing the entire script, including this ending. Though I’ve veered quite a bit off course from that original script, I’ve pretty much stuck with the basic sequence of events. Now that it’s all done, I finally feel free to answer any questions about the story, something I haven’t been doing so as to not give anything away.
I want to thank all of you readers for sticking with my tale, even though its unfolding has occasionally been rather slow. Reading a story 1 page a week is probably not the optimal way to consume graphic fiction, but there was a time when many of the great newspaper strips appeared only on Sundays, and for followers of Flash Gordon, Prince Valiant etc., it was the standard way of reading comics. Of course today everyone’s attention span is a lot shorter, which is why if there’s any of you who have been reading Tangled River from Day One, you should get a medal.
For those of you who would like collected editions of Tangled River, I’d like to put in a plug for https://artithmeric.com/. They have produced beautiful hardcover editions of the whole story in English and Italian versions, four volumes each. We’ve temporarily removed the books from the online store, so we can fix some errors, and also to print them in a much larger size. Steve Bee, the owner, is a fan of European style albums, and wants these books to have a similar large-size format. I expect the books will be available again very soon.
http://www.itsalivepress.com/ is a relatively new publisher, who will be releasing Tangled River as a 12 issue monthly comic series, starting I believe in May 2021, distributed by Diamond.
Lastly, I will be retiring the pen-name snowshadow. When I first decided to do a webcomic, I saw that lots of creators were using pen-names and decided to give it a try. In reality my name is Michael Cohen, and I currently live in a small town in Italy. I created and published comics during the self-publishing boom in the ‘90’s, including Strange Attractors, Mythography, and The Forbidden Book, all of which are long out of print. Artithmeric.com has reprinted the entire Strange Attractors saga in 4 hardcover volumes, entitled “Pirate Peg’s Rangerette Handbook”. It’s Alive will be reprinting all 17 issues of Strange Attractors as a monthly comic. And my next project will be to finally finish up a serialized fantasy story that ran in each of Mythography’s 8 issues, originally called “Empyrean Tales”, but now renamed as “A Gathering of Spells”. I’m planning on putting up a couple of pages a week on Comic Fury starting soon.
Anyway, I’ve gone on long enough. Thanks again to all you readers and I sincerely hope you were satisfied with the conclusion of Tanya’s story.

I recently had 50 copies of my graphic novel Tangled River printed - 30 copies in Italian, and 20 copies in the original English. The 300+ page color books were printed by Tipografia Garofoli in Sassoferato and the quality is excellent. If you want to get a copy from me, you can send me a DM or an email to mcohen472@gmail.com. The book is suitable for all ages. It costs 30 euros +10 euros shipping from Italy. I’ll send a signed copy. EU or UK orders only.
Well done.
I'll be checking out those web sites for a hard copy.
Thank you so much for sharing this story with us! I’ve enjoyed reading it over the years (amazing it has been years).
Thank you for the enjoyable read. My best wishes on your future projects
Read this since the very first strips if not the first. And it was a good read.
Prince Valiant, ha, that still exists. I wanted to say "Who remembers that", but it's still ongoing apparently - color me surprised.
wonderful ending! coloring page 001, Nov 1st, 2014... yah, it has been a long journey -- thank you for it. I read this thru topwebcomics and enjoyed also how we got you down from 500+ into the 40-70 range where you stayed for years.
Congradulations on your work, will follow up on your links!!
Hey, i love your comic, and i'll be checking out those sites for a copy
Have you considered publishing this comic on sites like webtoons.com as well? Or Tapas? Or Deviantart? A whole lot of people would fall in love with your comic on those sites as well :)
Hi. I have been running TR on Tapas, Drunk Duck, and Webtoons, but with a much smaller number of readers than Comic Fury. I tried Deviant Art for a few weeks, but didn't get much response.
Ah, i understand, a pity people hadnt found your comic on those sites... i subscribed to you on webtoons and deviantart at once :)
Have you checked out Hiveworks? As I understand it, it’s not something where they’ll automatically publish your finished comic, but they might if they feel it’s a good fit. I read a fair number of comics through them.
I was trying to remember where I originally stumbled across this, must have been on DD. I haven't thought of that site for ages, didn't realise it was still going.
Congratulations on completing the webcomic, I've really enjoyed it, its definitely an underappreciated gem.
I mean, someone has to ask, right?:)
But first of all, THANK YOU. I joined the Tangled River train on page 13, I think, and have been reading consistently until the end. It's an amazing story. Captivating, honestly! And I loved how real the characters were!
That being said, sooo.. what did happen to Licorice? I assume she ran away again? Was she jealous that Tanya had "better adventures"? Did she just grow cold and bitter from her imprisonment? Or was she just as volatile as ever? That was one twist I really didn't expect.
Great story! Thanks for your considerable talent and dedication. I'LL be interested in your next (and previous) works!
Very nice. As much as I'll miss the updates, I'm glad to see it completed. So very many never do.
Thank you very much. I don't recall what page you were on when I found this link, but it was near the beginning. You have held my attention for several years, and I appreciate the work (and love) you have put into this project.
Also, congratulations on a job well done.
Congrats on finishing the story!
I guess it's rereading time...
What story are you planning to tell next?
Clever and well plotted. Great characters. Lots of original ideas. Well done!
It's been a good story, Ive enjoyed it very much.
Thankyou.
This has been a really great story. Thank you for letting everyone read it! I started reading about a year ago, and I'm sad to see it end (although I did like the ending).
Thank you again, and good luck on your future projects!
Thank you for sharing this with us all. May your future be happy and bright.
Thanks Guy. You've been with me since "Triumph of the Dark Angel", the first comic story I ever finished.
When she made the decision to board the ship back to earth, I knew the end of the series was near.
I was fortunate to have discovered this comic very early in its run and enjoyed it immensely over the many months it ran. I really appreciate all of the hard work and time devoted to making Tangled River one of the best web comics I have ever read. I will certainly be on the lookout for the hard copy when it comes out and will happily buy every volume printed.
Gook luck in future endeavors, And if your next effort is as epic as this adventure has been I will faithfully follow it as well.
Congratulations and Well Done.
Take care
Wm Cook
Thank you so much for a beautifully written and illustrated story. It has been such a pleasure to read! I am sad that it is ending, but much like Neil Gaiman's Sandman, it is better to end well than to drag on past its time.
Take care, Mr. Cohen, and I wish you the best in your future endeavors!
Thank you. Your comic and the world you created have been among my favorites since I found your work.
I was afraid the end was coming after last week, but you have given us a masterful work.
I hope we see more comics in the future.
Best wishes and good luck.
It was a fine comic. Good luck with your projects.
Great story, and a surprise at the end. I very much enjoyed Tangled River and Strange Attractors was a favorite. I'll be picking up all the albums shortly!
I found this only yesterday, binged it and am crying. ❤️
