How long do you have to wait before you can say that stuff?
So... what are my thoughts on Palworld?
Well for starters, despite making loads of money and apparently being a very early access release, I get the feeling that from here on out, updates will be sparse and inconsequential. It'll be finished up, don't worry, but you're not going to see any huge changes. What you see now, is basically what you'll get in the future. Like with what happened with PUBG.
Secondly, the Pals in Palworld are totally ripping off Pokemon. But are doing so in a legally distinct way.
The defenders always say that there's only so many ways you can draw cute monsters, so of course they're going to look like Pokemon. To that I ask why is it that Digimon, Monster Rancher, Dragon Quest, and the Shin Megami Tensei series all have huge bestiaries of cute monsters, yet each game's creatures are instantly distinguishable from another game series, yet Palworld looks like Pokemon? As a matter of fact, Palworld and Pokemon looks so much alike that I honestly can't tell the difference between some of the Pals from Palworld and Gen 8/9 of Pokemon (the last gen I played was Gen 7). Face it, Palworld is copying Pokemon in terms of monster design.
The attackers on the other hand say that Nintendo will sue the creators of Palworld for copying Pokemon's look, to which I say that they can't. They look similar, but they're legally distinct. Much like how Deadpool is similar to Deathstroke or Hawkeye is similar to Green Arrow, you can get away with copying something else as long as it isn't exactly the same. Some of the Palworld designs might need changing, but for the most part, they're legally distinct. (Besides, they're clearly copying more than just Pokemon. One of the Pals looks almost exactly like a creature from Monster Rancher.)
Now as for the game itself...
Well, you've got to love how in terms of tone, it's like one of those Chinese or Russian bootlegs, with no concept of "child friendly". And for that alone, I think it's awesome.
But the gameplay itself isn't to my liking. It would've been better if it was like Pokemon instead of Ark. But hey, that's just me. At least it fully playable.
