They probably open outward ?
You can see the 'handles' and the other metalwork might be to keep them from being forced inward if someone decides to push instead of pull ?
Then again, on closer examination it looks like they slide.
The doors aren't flush with the walls and the outer metal bits seem to be on tracks at the top.
Not as secure but interesting in that people trying to storm in would try to push or pull first and lose time.
Fairly sure those doors aren't visible from the outside: note how the doorway looked from the outside? And he got a Roaring Twenties-style makeover once he entered
More like the 40's with the 'zoot suit' although the lapels could be a little wider and the pants more 'pegged'. All he needs is a long watch chain and a flatter hat ;)
