IT'S ALIVE!!
It's like that thread on the forums about creative drive and inertia, I was a body at rest remaining at rest after I hit a lot of roadblocks and took time off from drawing to work on the layout, and hopefully I am now a body in motion that will remain in motion.
Sadly, I cannot guarantee at this point that I will have the next comic up by this time next week, as it's going to introduce a new character whom I need to design (and for some reason I can't bring myself to give any of the major characters simple costumes), and I'm going to try out a more complex panel arrangement.
Next comic will also hopefully experiment with better highlighting and wrinkles in clothes to make the characters look less flat.
Oh, and I've also been putting together some assets for myself that I wish to share with my fellow webcomic artists that may or may not prove useful, depending on your drawing style. I'll add it to this page, in a new author notes block, shortly after this comic goes live. It may even already be there.
I suppose this comic is a shining example of how I'm trying to combine a humorous gag-a-day type comic with a narrative-driven comic (I hesitate to use the word "story" at this point). This is the first creative work I've ever really published, so I have no idea how the combination will work in the end.
Lastly, this is the first new comic to be added since I put together the site's new layout. That is... incredibly sad, really, but enough about my laziness. I think the layout may have some issues depending on things like browser, operating system, etc. It's designed so that the comic, navigation bar, and comments can be view from any monitor with a horizontal resolution of 1024 pixels or more without any horizontal scrolling, and the whole site can be viewed from any monitor of 1280 pixels or more without horizontal scrolling. So if you experience any issues or have any suggestions, please mention them in the comments. The layout is still not quite finished (again, sad), and I still need to work on the comments and blog page to better integrate them with the rest of the site's appearance.
List of bubbles with download links. The naming scheme has to do with the mathematics involved in drawing the bubbles. The larger the fraction is in the bubble's name, the more the corners are stretched. If you want the detailed explanation, drop me a comment.
- 8/3 Bubble: This bubble has the corners stretched out the farthest, and is only really useful for really text-heavy bubbles. I haven't tried it out myself yet, so I don't know how well it works.
- 12/5 Bubble: This bubble has the corners stretched out the second farthest. Both of the bubbles used in the second panel are the 12/5 bubble.
- 44/19 Bubble: Has the corners stretched out the third farthest. A bubble I made because I wanted something between the 12/5 bubble and the 16/7 bubble.
- 16/7 Bubble: Has slight corner stretching. The bubbles used in the first and third panels of this comic are the 16/7 bubbles.
- 20/9 Bubble: Has the least corner stretching. The effect is subtle, and it is practically indistinguishable from a normal circle/ellipse unless you're looking for it.
The layout's looking good so far.
