Cast Macabre (http://castmacabre.org) is a new weekly horror fiction podcast, featuring new and classic tales of terror, but editor Barry J. Northern (http://barryjnorthern.blogspot.com) defines horror as more than a genre.
"It was Douglas Winter (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_E._Winter) who said that horror is an emotion, and I agree. It is fear, dread, and dismay, but by showing and exploring those things, we might also come to a deeper understanding of love and hope. In any case, horror is a part of the human (and inhuman) condition, so I think it's important for us to stare at it squarely in the face."
Cast Macabre runs a wide range of stories from all around the world. Some have classic supernatural tropes, others just take the every day to the extreme, some make you laugh, others shudder, but they're all delightfully dark in some way, and all high quality. They've run stories by new and upcoming authours, as well as established writers, such as Tim Pratt (http://timpratt.org), and the Bram Stoker awarding-winning poet, Marge Simon (http://margesimon.com/).
Barry says of their occasional classic fiction shows: "We also want to bring you classic literary and genre horror pieces that may have slipped through the cracks of time, such as Bram Stoker's Dracula's Guest, or stories that have simply not been regarded as fitting into the horror genre, such as H.G.Well's A Moonlight Fable ."
